I’m back from a summer break! But first some housekeeping before we begin this newsletter:
If you’re new here, here’s the most popular newsletter of the year: On 29 philosophies for 29.
If you aren’t following me on Pinterest, what are you doing?? My boards are gorgeous if I do say so myself.
Also I’m going to try to be consistent on TikTok cause I have some exciting news coming soon!!! But also follow on Instagram too, duh.
After some feedback, I’ve put the subscription down to £5 a month for The Aram and £50 annually for the whole year. I will always try to keep the newsletter as accessible as I can while also respecting the many hours poured into this DIY newsletter.
It would mean the world to me if you become a paid subscriber. Tell a friend to tell a friend and now onto the good stuff.
What is self-love without community? What does it mean to look after those around you? Can we re-imagine how we show up for our Loved Ones?
When Macmillan x Guardian Labs got in touch with The Aram to be the centre of their September campaign ‘Get together for good’, it was a no-brainer.
So what better way to bring together women I’ve met through this newsletter but with a cup of chai and cake? Of course, I had to hold this coffee morning which was also a meditative writing workshop at Root25. Not only is it my favourite coffee shop in London, but it’s also a space that directly gives back to marginalised communities around the world.
The ideal safe space to converse and be aware of the rise of cancer across Muslim communities in the UK — a subject that is still taboo.
A big thank you to the Macmillan and Guardian Labs team for helping to put this together. To the director Sara Taleghani and producer Renasha Khan and their crew for their vision and work. And Rahima and Mabrur and their team at Root25 for hosting us. But my biggest thank-yous go to the wonderful Naailah and Maryiam who shared their personal stories for the short film above as well as the Muslim women who could be a part of the day.
If you’re able to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support — the price of a cup of coffee is more than enough — please see here. And let me know what you think of the short film!
May we always know we are stronger together.
With aram and Love,
Tahmina
