What I Write About
After being a journalist for nearly a decade, I was tired of being commissioned to ask women, specifically women of colour and Muslim women about their hurdles, disappointments and their struggles. Although all those stories are integral and important, there was a clear imbalance. Where were the stories of joy and what’s bringing ease to specifically women of colour and Muslim women?
“Aram” in Bengali translates to ‘ease’ and I hope that after reading The Aram you feel at home and seen.
Founded on International Women’s Day 2020, The Aram has now grown into a Substack newsletter that now shares experiences of womanhood, friendships, community-care and everything from the internal self to the writing and the arts. Alongside words, advice and interviews with prolific women of colour and Muslim women.
The newsletter has also been recommended by Pandora Sykes for The Sunday Times Style, Harper's Bazaar and ELLE India.
Thank you for being here and supporting a community of women of colour and Muslim women at a time when publishing is closing down publications every day.
